Knowing when to Fungicide peas is an essential part of growing great peas. In this article we will talk about the three key aspects of when to fungicide and what you need to watch for in the crop to get the most out of your inputs.

When you can throw a small dog in your peas and it would have trouble getting out then it's time to consider spraying your peas.

This analogy is useful because it helps us understand how thick the canopy has to be to consider spraying. Peas tangle together as they grow and this allows them to trap moisture. This helps them retain moisture but it is also a breeding ground for disease.

Staging is the next key aspect to consider when spraying. We aim to fungicide our peas when they are at 50% bloom provided that the crop is thick enough to be worth spraying. Once you have sprayed the chemical only protects the plants for 2 weeks so timing when to spray is critical. Occasionally we will fungicide our peas twice if disease pressure is relatively high.

The last thing to consider is your crop rotation, if your pea field was back to back peas then disease pressure will be higher so you might have to spray your peas twice to protect them for being over run by disease.
